Abstract Places to People is a popular and effective program designed to meet the extensive need for effective teacher training in social studies education. The project offers PLU credits workshop for teachers of grades 3-5 based on grade specific, GPS targeted units. Each Vita-Christine A. Draper Page 15 of 29 grade's curriculum is structured around an engaging simulation, such as designing a new historical park or creating a promotional campaign for the wonders of the nation. Throughout each simulation, students seek out and apply information, thereby improving their knowledge of the content and processes of social studies. Through three day workshops conducted by the project partners, teachers experience the curriculum units themselves, thereby learning both GPS content and inquiry-oriented teaching strategies.
