Biography

Prior to joining the faculty at PSU in 2012, Mr. Kristof practiced as a bridge designer.  Most recently, he worked at TY Lin International on the Sellwood Bridge replacement project.  His main design responsibility was to design the new steel deck arch spans that cross the Willamette River.  He worked closely with Multnomah county and the Construction Manager/ General Contractor (CMGC) to reduce costs on the project, and to analyze the steel erector’s proposed construction staging.  His other responsibilities included overseeing the 3D analysis model for the bridge, connection design, seismic detailing, substructure design, foundation design, and maintenance access design. Prior to his work on Sellwood, Evan also worked as a bridge designer at David Evans and Associates (DEA).  While at DEA, Evan focused on the design of a 625’ long freeway onramp bridge for the Victory-Lombard project in north Portland.  He was responsible for the foundation design and global analysis model for the bridge.  Evan’s other responsibilities on the project included foundation design for sign supports and soundwalls, retaining wall design (cantilever, gravity, MSE, and sheet pile), moment slab design, and utility coordination.  He was able to work with the contractor to reuse existing soundwall panels, saving the project time and money.  Other projects that Evan worked on while at DEA include the I-205 MAX light rail extension, the OR-217 widening project, and numerous bridge load ratings. Evan also is a registered attorney and practiced as an intellectual property lawyer, focusing on patent and trademark issues.  His legal practice included the domestic and international prosecution of green energy and nanotechnology patents, as well as patent portfolio management. At PSU, Evan acts as a faculty advisor to the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) student chapter and the Bridges to Prosperity (B2P) student chapter.  As an undergraduate, Evan was the student chapter president of ASCE, and competed on the steel bridge team.  He also served as the vice-president of the Capitol Branch of the ASCE Oregon Section. Evan’s academic interests include statics, mechanics of materials, materials testing, structural analysis, reinforced concrete design, and steel design.  Personally, Evan is interested in hiking, backpacking, and woodworking.
