Statement of Diversity and Inclusion The APA supports diversity and inclusion in the broadest sense, including race, ethnicity, religion, socioeconomic status, sexual orientation, gender identity, ability and other characteristics. Because the larger pediatric academic medicine community does not reflect the diversity of US and global pediatric health professionals or the children they serve, the APA recognizes its responsibility to create a diverse community of academic pediatric health professionals. By intentionally integrating diversity and inclusion tenets within its core values, the APA will lead the growth and development of all APA members, including those individuals historically underrepresented in pediatric academic medicine. The Academic Pediatric Association (APA) is led and directed by an experienced and qualified nine-member board of directors and its mission is to nurture the academic success and career development of child health professionals engaged in research, advocacy, improvement science and educational scholarship to enhance the health and well-being of all children. The APA’s vision of a “A thriving academic pediatric community that ensures optimal health and well-being for all children, particularly those most vulnerable” is guided by its core values of academic excellence, collaboration, mentorship, inclusion, respect, health equity and partnerships with children, families and communities.
