Description
The Arkansas Waterways Commission is the sole state agency responsible for developing, promoting and protecting waterborne transportation in Arkansas. The Commission also promotes economic development for ports on the five commercially navigable rivers of the state: The Arkansas, Mississippi, Ouachita, Red, and White Rivers. MISSION
The mission of the Commission is to develop, promote, and protect the commercially navigable waterways of Arkansas for waterborne transportation and economic development to benefit the people of Arkansas.
The powers and duties of the Commission are concerned specifically with navigation activities, port development, and the use and protection of the navigable streams within or adjacent to the State.
