The Association of Hispanists of Great Britain and Ireland The Association of Hispanists of Great Britain & Ireland (AHGBI) is a professional association of academics and researchers working in all areas of Hispanic and Lusophone Studies in England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales. The Association represents a very diverse discipline, in terms of both geographical coverage (Spain, Portugal, Latin America and other Hispanic and Lusophone parts of the world) and objects of study (language, literature, film, popular culture, visual culture, music, history). We promote research and advanced study in all these areas, and represent the interests of our scholarly community at national and international levels. The Association is a registered UK charity. The Association aims to promote scholarly research in Great Britain and Ireland into the study of the languages and cultures of the Hispanic and Lusophone world. 1 Annual Conference The Association hold an annual conference for its members during the Easter Vacation. In 2025 AHGBI will be holding its 70th Annual Conference. 2 Funding and Support The AHGBI offers a range of funding and support for members at all stages of their career. 3 Mentoring Scheme Sharing knowledge and expertise across ranks of the Association. 4 Institutional Reach 110 Institutions represented, and over 450 individual memberships.
