About us The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) promotes and protects Australia’s international interests to support our security and prosperity. We work with international partners and other countries to tackle global challenges, increase trade and investment opportunities, protect international rules, keep our region stable and help Australians overseas. DFAT values The Values Statement sets out the way the department chooses to achieve its purpose and is the foundation for our actions and behaviours. It creates a sense of shared identity within DFAT and defines how we work and interact with each other, our partners and clients, and the broader community.
