Bay of Plenty Regional Council's work guides and supports the sustainable development of the Bay of Plenty. About us As a regional council we are responsible for land, air and water, as well as public transport and economic development. The territorial authorities in our region (Kawerau District Council, ?p?tiki District Council, Rotorua Lakes Council, Tauranga City Council, Western Bay of Plenty District Council, Whakat?ne District Council, and part of Taup? District Council) are responsible for roading, recycling, animal control, parking, libraries and a number of other pieces of public infrastructure. We want to make sure our region grows and develops in a way that keeps its values safe for future generations. A major focus of our work involves looking after the environment. We manage the effects of people's use of freshwater, land, air and coastal water. However, we also have a broader responsibility with others for the economic, social and cultural well-being of the regional community. Our vision Thriving together – m? te taiao, m? ng? t?ngata. Our environment and our people go hand-in-hand. We need to protect and maintain our unique environment because natural resources, such as water, air and land, are vital to how we live. They are what give us sustenance, form the basis of our economy and generate our sense of community. We have an obligation to balance enjoying and using this environment now with protecting it for future generations. Nearly 500 full time staff are employed by the Regional Council - working from three offices in Whakat?ne, Tauranga, Rotorua – or from one of our depots which are located across the region. Our staff carry out the day to day work of the Council and provide the information and expertise to support our Councillors in making sound decisions for the region.
