Description
**Our story**
In 1988, members of the Leadership Shelby County Class were looking into the possibility of establishing a YMCA in the community. During their research and planning process, they were introduced to the community foundation model. The group was so impressed with the opportunities a community foundation could ultimately offer to the residents of Shelby County; they focused their efforts in creating the Blue River Community Foundation.
We owe our success to these founders as well as our donors, volunteers, and staff for their foresight and leadership over the years. Our current assets are over $41 million and we have awarded over $19 million in grants and scholarships. Although we cannot predict the future, BRCF is poised to meet the community’s ever changing needs forever.
**Our mission**
**The foundation is catalyst for igniting action that improves the quality of life in shelby county.**
**Our Vision**
**Our vision is to encourage philanthropy and inspire action that improves all lives and builds stronger communities in Shelby County.**
