Description
**Welcome to the British Council in India** We support peace and prosperity by building connections, understanding and trust between people in the UK and countries worldwide. The British Council remains co-owner of IELTS. We will continue to deliver IELTS preparation and other English language courses in India and worldwide. **What we do** The British Council is the United Kingdom's international organisation for educational opportunities and cultural relations. We create international opportunities for the people of the UK and other countries, building trust worldwide. Our iconic building in New Delhi was designed by renowned architect Charles Correa and was opened in 1993 displaying a unique mural by Howard Hodgkin on the façade symbolising the banyan tree - an enduring image of India -- along with a sculpture by Stephen Cox in the Charbagh called the Descent of the Ganges. Through our network of three libraries and cultural centres in India, we offer a range of specialised projects in arts, education and English language to audiences across India and more than 100,000 members. We also provide access to English language training and learning for both students and teachers and enable opportunities to study in the UK. We also manage prestigious scholarships and training awards, including the GREAT scholarships, the Commonwealth scholarships and Fellowship, and the Charles Wallace India Trust scholarships, and Hornby scholarships. Our English Language Teaching Centres in Chennai, Kolkata and New Delhi provide a range of general and business English courses, specialised skills-based programmes, and courses for young learners. We work with a wide range of government departments and partner organisations all over India and the UK to nurture mutually beneficial collaborations in arts, education and English Language. Our global programme The Climate Connection brings people around the world together to meet the challenges of climate change by enabling ideas and innovation. Most recently, we marked India's 75th anniversary with the India/UK Together, a Season of Culture. This cultural exchange celebrated the friendship between the UK and India through a vibrant 10-month programme of events across music, theatre, cinema, literature, fashion and visual arts.
