**MISSION STATEMENT** Building on the foundation of past achievements, we are committed to the creation, preservation, and mobilization of expert knowledge about Ukraine and Ukrainians in Canada and worldwide. As the world continues to change, we shall attain our vision through critical dialogue and sustained engagement with partners and researchers around the globe. Established in 1976, the Canadian Institute of Ukrainian Studies (CIUS) is a **global leader** in the field of Ukrainian Studies. In support of the University of Alberta and Faculty of Arts mission and values, the Institute is dedicated to the production, preservation, and dissemination of expert knowledge about Ukraine and Ukrainians in Canada and worldwide. Located in Edmonton and Toronto and with an office in Lviv, Ukraine, CIUS facilitates sustained scholarly engagement and cooperation between Canada and Ukraine, partner institutions and researchers around the globe, as well as between diverse ethnic and cultural groups in Canada. **Multidisciplinary** in its work, CIUS integrates the humanities and social sciences in its scholarly agenda. CIUS has **longstanding relationships** with leading universities around the world and is a partner with many post-secondary institutions in Ukraine, and globally in research and publishing projects as well as other joint endeavours such as scholarly symposia and conferences. CIUS has an exemplary record of **community engagement and outreach**. It has a large and loyal following among members of the Ukrainian community as well as the general public. CIUS has been and continues to be at the forefront of fundraising. The Institute’s many endowments sustainably support its work and support research by students, scholars and institutional partners. Given its recognized impact in the field, CIUS has gained significant support from donors in Canada, the USA, Ukraine and beyond. Currently, CIUS has about **80 endowment funds** with an estimated market value of **$34 million**. The Institute has also obtained over **$6.5 million additional research project awards** from several research projects sponsors across North America and Europe. CIUS boasts **innovative programming** based on the **value-added work** performed by some 40 employees, affiliates, visiting fellows and researchers. The [**Ukrainian Language Education Centre**](https://www.ualberta.ca/en/canadian-institute-of-ukrainian-studies/centres-and-programs/ulec/index.html) supports bilingual educational programs in Canada. The groundbreaking work of the [**Kule Centre for Ukrainian Canadian Studies**](https://www.ualberta.ca/en/canadian-institute-of-ukrainian-studies/centres-and-programs/kule-centre/index.html) contributes both to Ukrainian and Canadian Studies, while actively cultivating Diaspora and Canadian Studies in Ukraine. The [**Contemporary Ukraine Studies Program**](https://www.ualberta.ca/en/canadian-institute-of-ukrainian-studies/centres-and-programs/cusp/index.html) and the **Kowalsky Program for the Study of Eastern Ukraine** focus on the latest developments in Ukraine at a time when Ukraine’s geopolitical situation has major implications for the international order. The [**Holodomor Research and Education Consortium**](https://holodomor.ca/) is a world-recognized leader in the area of the Holodomor and genocide studies, responsible for unmatched knowledge mobilization in the field.
