Founded in 1989, the Center for British & Irish Studies at the University of Colorado Boulder promotes research and teaching in all aspects of British and Irish history and culture across the humanities and the arts, the social sciences, and the professional schools. The Center’s purview includes all the constituent parts of the United Kingdom and Ireland before and since 1707 (when Britain was created), their past and present relationships with each other and other parts of the world, and the British Empire and its legacy. The Center administers an undergraduate Certificate in British & Irish Studies. It offers competitive fellowships to graduate students who present conference papers or pursue research in British and Irish studies anywhere in the world. It hosts academic events, such as talks, conferences, and concerts and partners with faculty, students, and staff who organize academic events that focus on British and Irish studies.
