Description
**Introduction**
The Chiang Ching-kuo Foundation for International Scholarly Exchange (CCKF; hereafter referred to as the Foundation) was established in 1989 in memory of the late President of the Republic of China, Chiang Ching-kuo (1910-1988). Operational funds come from interest generated from an endowment donated by both the public and private sectors.
The Foundation is deeply committed to its mission of encouraging scholars at academic institutions throughout the world to undertake research projects in the humanities and social sciences that can shed new light on Chinese culture and society, as well as engage in international cooperation and exchange.
The Board of Directors is the Foundation’s highest body for decision and policymaking. There is also a Supervisory Board that supervises the management of the Foundation’s endowment, and a Finance Committee that works to oversee its financial operations. The Foundation’s headquarters is located in Taipei, where the President and Vice-President supervise its day-to-day operations. There is also an American Regional Office for that region’s affairs.
The Foundation currently maintains four overseas centers for Sinological research: The Chiang Ching-kuo Foundation International Sinological Centre at Charles University (CCK-ISC), The Chiang Ching-kuo Foundation Inter-University Center for Sinology (CCK-IUC), The Chiang Ching-kuo Foundation Asia-Pacific Centre for Chinese Studies at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CCK-APC), and The European Research Center on Contemporary Taiwan -- A CCK Foundation Overseas Center (CCKF-ERCCT).
In accordance with its charter, the Foundation has established review committees for each of its five regions of operation: Domestic Region, American Region, European Region, Asia-Pacific Region, and Developing Regions. Numerous internationally known scholars serve on these committees. The Foundation has also appointed a number of Advisors to help oversee its operations.
