**The Department of Labor’s Mission**
To foster, promote, and develop the welfare of the wage earners, job seekers, and retirees of the United States; improve working conditions; advance opportunities for profitable employment; and assure work-related benefits and rights.
The importance of the Department of Labor’s mission demands continual innovation, learning and improvement. Since 2010, the department’s Chief Evaluation Office (CEO) has supported DOL’s work with research, evaluation and analysis activities. CEO works to fulfill a number of Departmental legislative mandates related to evidence, while ensuring that our research adheres to the Department’s [Evaluation Policy](https://www.dol.gov/evidence/evaluation-policy) principles of **rigor, relevance, transparency, independence, and ethics**.
