**Mission** The central mission of the UNO Black Studies discipline is to prepare students to critically understand and interpret the complex histories, societies, and cultures of African people across the globe, and to employ theoretical and methodological tools drawn out of the collective Black experience in addressing relevant natural and social global issues on behalf of humanity. We situate this knowledge within a general discourse concerning what it teaches us about the totality of the human experience. **Vision** The ideal Black Studies graduate is: - Able to understand the Africana global experience - Equipped with theoretical and methodological tools for analyzing the social and natural world - Attractive to potential employers across a spectrum of career options - Conversant on the challenges to Africana phenomena in the context of Eurocentric worldviews - Capable of comparative analysis and of the application of Africana ideas to a wider human context
