**We’re here to serve you. Because together, we’re stronger.** At the Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta, we inspire and lead our region toward equity and shared prosperity for all. We work with — and for — all our neighbors across the community, making our region more equitable and prosperous for everyone who calls this great city home. Thanks to the communication and collaboration between donors, community stakeholders, civic leaders, nonprofits and others working together, we solve Atlanta’s challenges by activating social, moral, relational and financial capital. **Our work** As an organization, we follow our values: - Lead with courage. - Practice humility. - Be creative and innovative. - Treat everyone with kindness. - Hold ourselves accountable. Join us by donating your time, talent or treasure. **Our history** It has been said that history is written by the winner. For too long, that history has framed the philanthropist as the victor, a savior who, through charity and good heartedness, doled out a portion of their wealth to those who had little. A philanthropist was, to borrow imagery from children’s fairy tales, a white knight in shining armor who saved the day. It’s time to rewrite that narrative. Philanthropy is rife with inequity. Simply stated, in order for us to give something back to a community, we must first have gotten something – maybe even unfairly – from that community. The systems that undergird our institutions – from affordable housing and health care to education and the arts – are designed to benefit a select few at the expense of the many. Over the course of our 70-plus-year history, the Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta hasn’t always been aware of our role in perpetuating these disparities, but as we’ve become more aware, we have shifted our focus from distributing dollars and assets to engaging more deeply with the community, and committing to reimagining the systems that govern our lives. And, we are reimagining how we do philanthropy such that we more and more can say that we are helping to build a system and community that helps ensure that everyone who lives in metro Atlanta has a fair shot at a decent and good life. We’ve come a long way in 73 years. As we commit to being truth tellers and chroniclers of this next leg of our journey, we declare that all of us are equal members of metro Atlanta—that every voice, and every story, in every community matters.
