**About the Community Foundation for Northern Virginia** **Building a Community that Works for Everyone** Founded in 1978, the Community Foundation for Northern Virginia is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt, nonprofit organization that advances our region through [philanthropy](https://www.cfnova.org/giving-and-investing) and [community leadership](https://www.cfnova.org/community-leadership). We serve the counties of Fairfax, Loudoun, Arlington and Prince William, and the cities of Alexandria, Falls Church, Fairfax, Manassas and Manassas Park. Our work is guided by a [strategic plan](https://www.cfnova.org/about/mission-and-strategic-plan) that advances four key priorities for the region: Social and Economic Mobility, Opportunities for All, Inclusive Systems of Economic Growth, and Community Resilience. **Strategic Plan 2023-2027** **Advancing Northern Virginia through Philanthropy and Community Leadership** The Community Foundation for Northern Virginia’s 2023-2027 Strategic Plan focuses on advancing Northern Virginia through philanthropy and community leadership. The Plan was created by the board and staff of the Community Foundation with input from members of our greater community. By leveraging our collective strengths, we co-create innovative solutions that build a more vibrant and resilient Northern Virginia. **Humility:** We listen first, respect different voices, and seek out opportunities to learn from others. **Inclusion and Belonging:** Recognizing the complexity of our society, we aim to foster vibrant inclusive growth for the diverse region, striving to more effectively address barriers that hamper our collective potential to strengthen Northern Virginia. **Knowledge and Innovation:** We work to build understanding of our region’s challenges and opportunities through dialogue, research, data, and constantly learning from voices throughout our community. **Our Strategic Priorities** **Social and Economic Mobility** **To promote the social and economic mobility of Northern Virginians, we will:** - Partner with and invest in organizations with existing trusted relationships in the communities they serve, including programs that help local residents access and claim existing financial benefits, provide skills-based trainings that lead to living wage jobs, and promote increased or guaranteed income programs for low-income families - Use stories to highlight the assets, talents, and interests of our underserved communities, promoting their achievements with a perspective of positive change - Elevate underrepresented voices to advance a whole community narrative - Publish Insight Region® data that help clarify the challenges to social and economic mobility, then partner across sectors to develop shared solutions
