**Get to know the Department of Social Services** The Department of Social Services (DSS) is Connecticut’s comprehensive health and human services agency. We envision a Connecticut where all are healthy, secure, and thriving. Our programs and services support this goal, serving about 1.2 million residents of all ages across Connecticut. DSS has 1,700 dedicated staff led by Commissioner Andrea Barton Reeves. We work with our service partners to: - Provide federal and state aid, social services, support for residents, and more - Support the well-being of nearly 1 million residents through HUSKY Health healthcare coverage - Help nearly 390,000 residents afford food through the Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program (SNAP) **Overview** ***The Department in Brief*** The Department of Social Services (DSS) delivers and funds a wide range of programs and services as Connecticut’s multi-faceted health and human services agency. DSS serves about 1 million residents of all ages in all 169 Connecticut cities and towns. We support the basic needs of children, families, older and other adults, including persons with disabilities. Services are delivered through 12 service centers, central administration, and online and phone access options.
