CSA BrainHealth

The CSA BrainHealth is the preparatory phase for a European Partnership for Brain Health. The project started on November 1st, 2023 with a runtime of 24 months. Funded by the European Commission, it builds the umbrella for 21 participants from 11 countries. The CSA BrainHealth addresses policy-makers and funders from European Member States, Associated and Third Countries, and other stakeholders, in close interaction with the research community. A wide-ranging and diverse CSA BrainHealth network is created including a Funders Forum, a Stakeholders Forum, and a Scientific Advisory Board to enable broad discussion and the development of a Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda in preparation for a future European partnership for Brain Health. This European Partnership will holistically approach the biomedical, economic, and societal challenges in the field of brain health in Europe and worldwide, aiming for collaborative and innovative solutions for preservation and improvement of brain health, as well as prevention, diagnosis and therapies for neurological and mental disorders. The overarching goal is to foster a European partnership to promote global brain health and enhance the well-being of individuals living with neurological and mental health conditions. The brain, our most complex organ, shapes our humanity and fuels technological leaps. Yet, its intricate functioning remains a mystery, especially when it comes to preserving its health. We, the CSA BrainHealth participants, embrace the WHO definition of brain health as: “…the state of brain functioning across cognitive, sensory, social-emotional, behavioral and motor domains, allowing a person to realize their full potential over the life course, irrespective of the presence or absence of disorders”, while explicitly including the relevance of mental health in our approaches. Seizing the momentum and capitalizing on cutting-edge research will unleash a powerful innovation force, creating a new ecosystem for brain research. This will be consolidated though an ambitious European partnership, strengthening the position of Europe’s standing in the field of brain health research.
