Daniel B. Deupree Foundation

It was his strong belief in education, in the youth of the country and the future of the nation that led Mr. Daniel Bryan Deupree in 1965 in his decision to establish a scholarship foundation. In 1980, before Mr. Deupree’s death, a trust was established and five trustees appointed to govern the scholarship foundation. The 84 year-old bachelor, a retired rural mail carrier and Realtor, willed the proceeds from the sale of 2,500 acres of land he owned to be sold and invested in this foundation. The trust states that at least 80% of the scholarships will be given to students from FANNIN COUNTY. The recipients of these scholarships are chosen without regard to race, color, or creed. The awarding of the scholarships is based upon the applicants need, character, grades and goals in education. No funds go directly to the students, but to the colleges of their choice and placed in an account in the business office to pay tuition, books, fees, supplies, room and board. If the student is unable to use all of the money, the college must return the remainder to the foundation. Applicants will be notified if they are accepted to receive the scholarship. The deadline for fall semester scholarships is March 5. The deadline for spring semester is October 5. In order to be considered, applicants must submit a completed application and requested documents by the deadline each spring and fall semester.
