Description
The U.S. National Science Foundation Division of Electrical, Communications and Cyber Systems (ECCS) supports research at the nano, micro and macro scales with high societal impacts.? ECCS supports fundamental engineering research and education focused on: - Semiconductor design and fabrication. - Next-generation information storage technologies. - Quantum manufacturing. - Photonics. **What we support** ECCS programs address the emerging national priorities in both semiconductor and quantum technologies through several research activities: - [Future of Semiconductors (FuSe2)](https://www.nsf.gov/funding/opportunities/fuse2-future-semiconductors/506141 "Future of Semiconductors (FuSe2)"), a cross-agency program supporting the co-design of semiconductor materials, devices and systems. - Access to [semiconductor fabrication](https://www.nsf.gov/funding/opportunities/dcl-supplements-access-semiconductor-fabrication-asf/nsf22-113 "Supplements for Access to Semiconductor Fabrication (ASF)"). - Fundamental and translational research on 'lab-to-fab' semiconductor technologies. ECCS provides lead support for the [National Nanotechnology Coordinated Infrastructure (NNCI)](https://www.nsf.gov/eng/nnci "National Nanotechnology Coordinated Infrastructure (NNCI)"), a network of 16 university-based user facilities providing access to tools, instruments and expertise across nanoscale science and engineering disciplines for students and researchers from academia, industry and government. ECCS supports?[Research Experiences for Undergraduates](https://www.nsf.gov/funding/initiatives/reu "NSF Research Experiences for Undergraduates"), [Research Experiences for Teachers](https://www.nsf.gov/funding/opportunities/research-experiences-teachers-engineering-computer-science "Research Experiences for Teachers in Engineering and Computer Science") and [Non-Academic Research Internships for Graduate Students supplements](https://www.nsf.gov/eng/intern "Non-Academic Research Internships for Graduate Students (INTERN)?Program")?and strongly emphasizes integrating education into its research programs to ensure the preparation of a diverse and professionally skilled workforce. **Core programs** **[Electronics, Photonics and Magnetic Devices (EPMD)](https://www.nsf.gov/funding/opportunities/epmd-electronics-photonics-magnetic-devices "Electronics, Photonics and Magnetic Devices (EPMD)")** Supports innovative research to advance the frontiers of micro-, nano- and quantum-based devices operating within the electromagnetic spectrum. **[Communications, Circuits and Sensing-Systems (CCSS)](https://www.nsf.gov/funding/opportunities/ccss-communications-circuits-sensing-systems "Communications, Circuits, and Sensing-Systems (CCSS)")** Supports research in circuit and system hardware and signaling, as well as network architectures to enable next-generation cyber-physical systems. **[Energy, Power, Control and Networks (EPCN)](https://www.nsf.gov/funding/opportunities/epcn-energy-power-control-networks "Energy, Power, Control, and Networks (EPCN)")** Supports research in networked multi-agent systems to improve the integration of power systems with regulatory and economic structures and consumer behavior.
