Description
The U.S. National Science Foundation Division of Research, Innovation, Synergies, and Education (RISE) fosters connections among scientific discoveries, societal needs and education for the geoscience community.
**What we support**
RISE supports transdisciplinary collaborations that engage the broader community to drive transformative discoveries, translational research, innovations in workforce development and use-inspired solutions for urgent Earth system challenges.
**Core incubators**
RISE is organized by themes, or incubators, that focus on investment areas across the Directorate for Geosciences (GEO). The division expands funding opportunities and areas of inquiry for the geoscience community through partnerships with other NSF directorates and external agencies.
**[Global Climate Challenges](https://www.nsf.gov/geo/rise/global-climate-challenges-incubator "Global Climate Challenges Incubator")**
Addresses climate and global change issues through convergent, interdisciplinary and equitable research approaches. A suite of international and national programs support progress in critical areas.
**[Geoscience Cyberinfrastructure](https://www.nsf.gov/geo/rise/cyberinfrastructure "Geosciences Cyberinfrastructure Incubator")**
Supports research projects that use crosscutting efforts to develop and expand access to cyberinfrastructure to promote open, inclusive, computationally enabled and data-driven geoscience research and education.
**[Geoscience Education and Broadening Participation](https://www.nsf.gov/geo/rise/broadening-participation "Geoscience Education and Broadening Participation Incubator ")**
Supports research projects focused on education, talent development, outreach and broadening participation.
**[Geoscience Innovation Hub](https://www.nsf.gov/geo/rise/i-hub "The Geoscience Innovation Hub")**
Supports efforts to help geoscientists effectively navigate NSF funding opportunities focused on innovation and use-inspired research.
**[Synergistic Activities](https://www.nsf.gov/geo/rise/synergistic-activities-incubator "Synergistic Activities Incubator")**
Supports coordination opportunities across the directorate to synergize convergence research, international lead agency opportunities and global centers. Explore RISE incubators and programs
**Who we are**
RISE includes both federal employees and scientists from research institutions in temporary positions through the "Intergovernmental Personnel Act."
