**What we do** We deliver public education for children and young people in the ACT. Our mission is to offer excellent, fair and equitable education. We want all students to feel safe, valued and supported to thrive. We have 93 public schools across the ACT that offer high quality education to more than 50,000 students including: - [early childhood and preschools](https://www.act.gov.au/education-and-training/early-childhood-and-preschool) - [primary schools, high schools, colleges and specialist schools](https://www.act.gov.au/education-and-training/find-a-school-and-enrol). We also: - regulate [education service providers and register non-government schools](https://www.act.gov.au/education-and-training/education-service-providers) - employ [ACT teachers and non-teaching staff](https://www.act.gov.au/work-with-act-government/careers-in-education) - recognise excellence in public education through the [Public Education Awards](https://www.act.gov.au/community/honours-and-awards/act-public-education-awards "ACT Public Education Awards").
