Five Wings Arts Council

History of the Five Wings Art Council Established in 1977, the Five Wings Art Council is one of 11 designated Regional Arts Councils in the state of Minnesota that provide grants and services to nonprofit arts organizations, and individual artists. The Five Wings Art Council was formed as a response to a legislative initiative that called for more development of the arts in Minnesota at the local level. FWAC is funded through appropriations from the Minnesota State Legislature with money from the State’s general fund and Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund (Legacy Amendment) as provided by the Minnesota State Legislature through the vote of the people to pass funding for the arts. FWAC also receives a generous grant from the McKnight Foundation. OUR PURPOSE is to support, educate, and encourage artists and organizations to foster and facilitate local arts development. We believe that everyone should have opportunities to take part in the arts. About our Grant Programs As one of the eleven Regional Arts Councils of Minnesota, the Five Wings Art Council is entrusted with the stewardship and distribution of funds acquired from the Minnesota Arts and Cultural Heritage (ACH) fund as well as funds allocated from the General Budget through the Minnesota State Legislature. We embrace the vision, guiding principles, goals, and key strategies developed in partnership with the Minnesota Regional Arts Councils and the Minnesota State Arts Board. FWAC is committed to working together to accomplish this vision. We do this through grant programs designed to support the work of community organizations and individual artists. The Five Wings Arts Council also administers grant funds from the McKnight Foundation to support the work of individual artists within our region. Who We Serve The Five Wings Art Council provides grants and services to community groups art and individual artists in Cass, Crow Wing, Morrison, Todd, and Wadena counties, and the residents of the Leech Lake Tribal community.
