Description
**About Fourteen Hills**
**Overview**
Fourteen Hills is a graduate student-run and award-winning literary magazine that has been a vital part of the Bay Area literary community and beyond. Since our inception in 1994, we have featured both emerging and established authors including Tommy Orange, Angie Cruz, Brenda Hillman, Noah Eli Gordon, Victoria Chang, Bob Hicok, and Mary Gaitskill. Works published in Fourteen Hills have been selected for the O’Henry Prize, Pushcart Prize Special Mentions, the Best American Poetry Prize Anthology, Best American Short Stories, and more.
**Mission Statement**
At Fourteen Hills, our mission is to publish work that challenges conventions and subverts entrenched narratives. We work to amplify diverse voices with the intention of pushing the boundaries of what literature can be.
To that end, we will strive to:
- Center the work of underrepresented voices who have long been pushed to the margins of the publishing world,
- Examine our submissions process, including outreach, evaluation, and review through the lens of diversity, equity, and inclusion,
- Ensure that our leadership and editorial staff reflect our commitment to centering underrepresented voices,
- Maintain a standing committee to adjust and update our diversity, equity, and inclusion strategies, and
- Continue to educate ourselves on current diversity, equity and inclusion needs and practices in the publishing and literary world.
