A private, non-profit institution, the work of the GCI is carried out through four departments: [Buildings and Sites](https://www.getty.edu/conservation/about/field_projects/index.html), [Collections](https://www.getty.edu/conservation/about/education/index.html), [Science](https://www.getty.edu/conservation/about/science/index.html), and Communications.
**Mission and Values**
We work internationally to advance conservation practice in the visual arts—objects, collections, architecture, and sites. The Institute serves the conservation community through scientific research, education and training, field projects, and disseminating information. In all our endeavors, we create and deliver knowledge that contributes to the conservation of the world's cultural heritage.
