**About the program** The VA’s Grant and Per Diem (GPD) Program, offered annually as funding permits, is a vital initiative by the Department of Veterans Affairs to support community agencies providing services to Veterans experiencing homelessness. The GPD Program awards grants to community-based organizations to offer transitional supportive housing, helping vulnerable Veterans transition into permanent housing. These grants are designed to assist Veterans at various stages on their path to stable housing. Community organizations receiving GPD grants provide focused transitional housing services through a range of housing models tailored to the unique needs of Veterans. The GPD program plays an essential role in the continuum of homeless services by offering supportive services to Veterans who might otherwise be unsheltered. As a result, Veterans achieve residential stability, enhance their skill levels and income, and gain greater self-determination. Additionally, the GPD Program provides Case Management grants to support permanent housing retention for Veterans who were previously homeless.
