Description
MISSION
Harry M. Horton, son of Albert and Minerva Horton, was born in 1878. A lifelong Rhode Island resident, he was part owner of the Queen Dyeing Company in Rhode Island established in 1893 by his father and oldest brother. The company focused on dyeing and printing of cotton goods. Harry was considered an excellent finisher, which refers to the processes performed after dyeing the yarn or fabric to improve the look, performance, or texture of the finished textile or clothing. Harry later served as Vice President, Secretary and eventually Director of the Queen Dyeing Company.
Harry M. Horton’s wife Miriam established the Harry M., Miriam C. and William C. Horton Fund in 1948 to memorialize her husband and son William, and to benefit public, charitable, educational or religious purposes, societies or institutions which are organized under the laws of, or whose principal objects are carried out within the state of Rhode Island.
