Description
How we work With the world population projected to increase to 8 billion by 2023 — and to considerably more than that by 2100 — the Institute is purposed to find solutions for the ever-growing demand for food, water, and energy while ensuring a safe, productive, and sustainable environment for all global citizens. Our three-pronged approach — research, campus sustainability, and education and outreach — was created to do just that. The overarching goal: to become a global model of sustainability by creating effective, positive change. Our Vision With the world population projected to increase rapidly in the coming decades, we want to find solutions for the ever-growing demand for food, water, and energy while ensuring a safe, productive, and sustainable environment for all global citizens. Our Mission To foster actionable, interdisciplinary research to address fundamental challenges in sustainability, energy and environment; to provide national and international leadership in these areas through interdisciplinary education and outreach activities; and to develop and implement strategies for a sustainable environment on the University of Illinois’ Urbana-Champaign campus and beyond.
