Description
The International Future Energy Challenge is an annual undergraduate student competition in the design of power electronic systems. The competition topic and location change every year.
**Topic**
Affordable Bidirectional Onboard Charger for Electric Vehicles
**Specification**
•Cost density: cost minimization (BOM to be presented)
•Input voltage levels: dual 1?-AC input voltage @120Vac(60Hz) & 230Vac(50Hz)
•Output voltage: 400 Vdc nominal (~150-450V)
•Power: 1kW, bidirectional power capability, light load testing possible
•Targeted efficiency: >92%@1kW ; >80% @100W
•Targeted power density: 2 kW/l including cooling, EMI filters
•Cooling: natural convection or self-supplied forced convection
•Safety: galvanic isolation (Hipot test)
•Testing: plug-and-play capability (without interface or interaction)
•No real batteries will be used à bidirectional power supplies and resistive loads

**Prizes:**
There will be a Grand Prize of $10,000 and three additional awards granted at $5,000, $3,000 and $1,000 each. Competition metrics will include design considerations, measurement results, and innovation.
