We Believe** - The field should be the driver of change and incubator of ideas. - Directly impacted individuals are necessary voices in shaping the narrative to inform policies that directly affect them. - Race, gender, economics, and legal status should not be barriers to full equity. - All systems and institutions should treat individuals and the communities in which they live and work with honesty, respect, and dignity. - Philanthropy supports change by investing in leadership, providing adequate resources to sustain strong institutions, and taking calculated risks. - Meaningful systems change requires patience and sustained investments coupled with a sense of urgency. Strategy - We support projects that change systems through policy, media & communications, advocacy & organizing, field building, leadership development, and narrative change. - We recognize that many public policies result in negative economic and social conditions that influence individual and community health; we invest in projects that seek to change these harmful and inequitable structural systems. - We select focus areas where our investment can contribute to meaningful system and policy change. - We partner and collaborate strategically. - We take measured risks. - We provide resources over time. - We support efforts to dismantle systemic and organizational barriers. - We invest in organizations, partnerships, and networks that change public policy to support the most affected. - We convene our focus area grantees so they have the time and space to network and build off each other’s work. - Our Mission remains constant, but we adapt our strategy as needed to respond to social and political realities.
