**A Foundation that Embodies the True Meaning of “Community”** The Lakewood Ranch Community Foundation, established in 2000, was founded on the principle that a true community needs a “soul” – a way to support residents, foster culture, and address emerging needs in Lakewood Ranch and the surrounding eastern areas of Sarasota and Manatee counties. Recognizing that some community needs might be overlooked amidst rapid growth, the Foundation serves as a vehicle for residents and businesses to invest in ensuring these needs are met, even those not immediately obvious. Its sole focus is on enhancing the lives of people within the Lakewood Ranch area through local giving. **Our History** In early 2023, the Fund transitioned to a 501 C 3 exemption after spending the past 20 years of its existence working closely with the Manatee Community Foundation to achieve its mission. Just like students graduating and setting out into the world on their own journey, the Fund’s exemption marked a new beginning for an organization with more than two decades of history. In 2024, we became the Lakewood Ranch Community Foundation (LWRCF). From its inception through December 2020, we have granted over $1.5 million to over 140 nonprofits to directly improve the lives of Lakewood Ranch residents. Those who donate time and treasure to LWRCF largely do so as part of a broader giving strategy. While many people use this as their sole philanthropic outlet, some have pet causes. However, they also want to ensure they are doing what they can for their community.
