**Overview & Geographic Reach** The Miami Valley Regional Planning Commission (MVRPC) has served the planning needs of the Miami Valley in Southwest Ohio since 1964, serving the Region for more than sixty years. MVRPC serves as the Metropolitan Planning Organization for Montgomery, Miami, and Greene Counties, plus a portion of Northern Warren County. Since June 2024, MVRPC serves as the Regional Transportation Planning Organization for Darke, Preble, and Shelby Counties. MVRPC also provides Regional and Environmental planning support for members in seven counties. * * * **Guiding Principles & Vision** MVRPC [policies](https://www.mvrpc.org/policies "Policies") guide agency interactions in many areas, including the implementation of project funding, public participation in the planning process, public records retention and access, and non-discrimination. Founded upon the principles of regional collaboration, cooperation, and consensus building, the MVRPC serves as the common ground where area partners come together to work toward a shared vision across the Region. Together, public and private partners develop and implement innovative and sustainable strategies that enhance the Region's quality of life and economic vitality. As the designated Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO), MVRPC is responsible for transportation planning in Greene, Miami, and Montgomery Counties and parts of northern Warren County. MVRPC's [areawide water quality planning](https://www.mvrpc.org/environment-and-economic-development/water-quality-management/areawide-water-quality-plan "Areawide Water Quality Plan") designation encompasses five (5) counties: Darke, Preble, plus the three MPO counties. MVRPC's Board of Directors is a decision-making body and is comprised of elected officials of local government organizations and representatives of other non-governmental organizations, such as local chambers of commerce, regional transit authorities, special districts, higher education institutions, private businesses including utility companies, and state agencies such as the Ohio Department of Transportation. MVRPC members appoint representatives to sit on various committees. These various committees are organized based on subject matter and are charged with making recommendations to the full Board based on staff recommendations on issues. * * * **Staff Expertise & Operations** Under the leadership of the [Executive Director](https://www.mvrpc.org/our-members/executive-directors-update "Executive Director's Update"), MVRPC employs experienced, professional, technical [staff](https://www.mvrpc.org/staff-directory "Staff Directory"), bringing together many decades of planning experience. The staff's expertise covers various subject areas including: regional transportation, land use, environmental planning, program management, public policy development, Geographic Information Systems, travel demand forecasting modeling, database management, public relations, marketing, strategic planning, visioning, survey research, meeting facilitation, and qualitative and quantitative data analysis. Periodically MVRPC hires outside contractors to assist with projects or other business. MVRPC will list any solicitations or requests for proposals for contract services.
