**About Us** The Missouri Health Information Management Association MoHIMA began in 1952 and has continued to this date as the authority within Missouri on Health Information practices and procedures. We are an integral part of the [American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA)](http://www.ahima.org/) and support their strategies to increase the visibility of the profession. [AHIMA](http://www.ahima.org/) is a global nonprofit association of health information (HI) professionals with more than 71,000 members and more than 100,000 credentials in the field. The AHIMA mission of empowering people to impact health drives our members and credentialed HI professionals to ensure that health information is accurate, complete, and available to patients and providers. Our leaders work at the intersection of healthcare, technology, and business and are found in data integrity and information privacy job functions worldwide. **VISION** A state where trusted information transforms health and healthcare by connecting people, systems and ideas. **MISSION** Empowering people to impact health in Missouri To achieve our mission and vision MoHIMA focuses on: - Professional Development to provide educational opportunities and information by which members may achieve and sustain professional excellence. - Public Relations to disseminate pertinent information to its members by maintaining effective databases and communication linkages - Advocacy to influence issues which impact the confidentiality, collection and use of health information at the state and/or national level. Our members work in a myriad of settings. Work settings include acute care hospitals, long-term care, mental health, insurance companies, physician office practices, veterinary clinics, prison systems, ambulatory clinics, consulting practices, legal practices, vendors, and accounting firms, etc. Our skill sets include managerial and technical skills. We are trained to retrieve, retain and analyze data. Confidentiality, integrity and security of the data we create and maintain is of prime concern to us. Our members are considered the authority in coded disease and procedures are data throughout the nation.
