Murray and Agnes Seasongood Good Government Foundation

Murray and Agnes Seasongood were philanthropists whose work included the promotion of good government and civic reform. As such, the Seasongood Foundation devotes its resources to civic philanthropy, striving to ensure accountability, transparency, equitability, and efficiency in local government. As one means to this end, the Seasongood Foundation supports citizen engagement and civic education through grants for 501(c)(3) community organizations and professional associations committed to facilitating and enabling good government and governance. In 2021, the Trustees refined the Foundation’s strategic priorities for grantmaking: - Ethical Behavior in Government: Projects that promote ethical understanding and behavior among elected and appointed officials. - Student Internships: Grants to government organizations in the region to support undergraduate (junior or senior) or graduate college student interns with an intention around public service. - Public Safety and Community Relations: Building productive relationships to assure equal justice. - Voter Engagement: Increase voter turnout by educating people about the importance of voting and the voting process and by reducing barriers to voting. - Civic Engagement: Projects that engage others regardless of citizenship status in taking action to identify and address issues of public concern and make a difference in the civic life of our communities.
