Description
As per Budget 2018, the Government announced the consolidation of the Centres of Excellence for Commercialization and Research (CECR) and the Business-led Networks of Centres of Excellence (BL-NCE) programs with the Strategic Innovation Fund (SIF). Innovation Canada is working with the NCE to implement these programming changes with minimal disruption to organizations currently funded by the CECR and BL-NCE programs. As per the December 2018 NCE Program news, funding for the Networks of Centres of Excellence (NCE) Program will be gradually transferred to the New Frontiers in Research Fund (NFRF). In light of this, the NCE Secretariat will not be conducting any future calls for proposals for all of its programs and initiatives. Canada’s global economic competitiveness depends on making new discoveries and transforming them into products, services and processes that improve the lives of Canadians. To meet this challenge, the Networks of Centres of Excellence (NCE) offers a suite of programs that mobilize Canada’s best research, development and entrepreneurial expertise and focus it on specific issues and strategic areas. NCE programs meet Canada’s needs to focus a critical mass of research resources on social and economic challenges, commercialize and apply more of its homegrown research breakthroughs, increase private-sector R&D, and train highly qualified people. As economic and social needs change, programs have evolved to address new challenges. By harnessing the best talent in the natural sciences, engineering, social sciences and health sciences, NCE programs help build a more advanced, healthy, competitive and prosperous country. Four national programs bring together the right mix of people and organizations to address important issues for Canadians: - Networks of Centres of Excellence (NCE) (includes the NCE Knowledge Mobilization [NCE-KM], the Canada-India Research Centre of Excellence [CIRCE] and the NCE International Knowledge Translation Platforms [NCE-IKTP] initiatives) - Centres of Excellence for Commercialization and Research (CECR) - Business-Led Networks of Centres of Excellence (BL-NCE)
