Description
The Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education is a [U.S. Department of Energy \[energy.gov\]](https://www.energy.gov/ "Visit external website") asset that is dedicated to enabling critical scientific, research, and health initiatives of the department and its laboratory system by providing world class expertise in STEM workforce development, scientific and technical reviews, and the evaluation of radiation exposure and environmental contamination. ORISE accomplishes its mission by providing superior, integrated solutions to: - Recruit and prepare the next generation of [our nation's scientific workforce](https://orise.orau.gov/stem/index.html) - Promote sound scientific and technical investment decisions through [independent peer reviews](https://orise.orau.gov/peer-review/index.html) - Facilitate and prepare for the [medical management of radiation incidents](https://orise.orau.gov/reacts/index.html) in the United States and abroad - [Evaluate health outcomes in individuals](https://orise.orau.gov/health-surveillance/index.html) exposed to chemical and radiological hazards - Ensure public confidence in environmental cleanup through [independent environmental assessments](https://orise.orau.gov/environment/index.html) ORISE performs this work for DOE and its national laboratory system and for non-DOE entities through the [Strategic Partnership Projects](https://orise.orau.gov/about/contracting-through-orise.html) program. **How is ORISE different?** What makes ORISE a world-leading, scientific asset is deep subject matter expertise. ORISE facilitates access to premier scientific user facilities and large-scale, multidisciplinary research programs unavailable in universities or industry. ORISE is increasing global reach by making this expertise and extraordinary access available to stakeholders worldwide. With offices primarily located in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, ORISE is commonly confused with [Oak Ridge National Laboratory \[ornl.gov\]](https://www.ornl.gov/ "Visit external website"). ORNL is DOE's largest science and energy laboratory, conducting basic and applied research to deliver transformative solutions to compelling problems in energy and security. ORNL is managed by UT-Battelle, LLC, for the U.S. Department of Energy. Though ORNL contracts certain services from ORISE, it has no direct role in its management. ORISE is managed by [ORAU \[orau.org\]](https://www.orau.org/ "Visit external website"), a university consortium of more than 170 major Ph.D.-granting academic institutions and a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation. ORAU strengthens the nation's workforce by developing scientific and technical workers, connecting talent and expertise, and improving the health, safety, and resilience of the communities where they live and work to achieve scientific discovery and economic growth. The Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education is committed to supporting the U.S. Department of Energy's objective to create scientific and innovative solutions to meet the nation's energy, nuclear security, and environmental challenges. ORISE supports DOE's mission by fostering development of the next generation of STEM professionals and by collaborating with the DOE Office of Science and other DOE programs, DOE partner facilities, other federal agencies, the scientific community, and industry to address scientific initiatives. The foundation of our values is centered on key pillars that help define the success of ORISE, including quality, safety, and environmental stewardship. ORISE operates under these guiding pillars on a daily basis, and as a result, remains focused on its mission to support DOE and the nation.
