Oregon Chapter of the American Fisheries Society

**About ORAFS** The Oregon Chapter of the American Fisheries Society is composed of over 400 fisheries and aquatic science professionals from federal, state, and tribal agencies, colleges and universities, and diverse private employers. Students and retired professionals of the fisheries and aquatic science fields are also important members. The chapter was established in 1964 as an affiliate of the American Fisheries Society. Our mission is to improve the conservation and sustainability of Oregon fishery resources and their aquatic ecosystems for long-term public benefit by advancing science, education and public discourse concerning fisheries and aquatic science and by promoting the development of fisheries professionals. To accomplish our mission and serve our members, the chapter goals are to develop programs that advance understanding of fishery science and responsible stewardship of fishery resources; advocate policies and laws that benefit the conservation and sustainability of Oregon fishery resources; increase public awareness, understanding and appreciation of fishery resources; promote development of fishery and aquatic science professionals; and maintain an active and diverse membership. Our activities include hosting excellent annual meetings (usually in February) and workshops, providing statements in response to proposed policy direction and legislative actions, maintaining a web site and newsletter, and encouraging and supporting fishery students. The Oregon Chapter has been received the “National Outstanding Chapter” award six times in the last ten years
