Description
**About QPP**
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) launched the Quality Payment Program (QPP) in 2017. The program aims to reward improved patient outcomes and drive fundamental movement toward a value-based system of care. The program offers 2 payment tracks: the Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) and Advanced Alternative Payment Models (APMs).
**Objectives of the Program**
CMS, with input from over 100,000 clinicians and other interested parties, identified 10 objectives for QPP. They include:
1. To improve beneficiary population health
2. To improve the care received by Medicare beneficiaries
3. To lower costs to the Medicare program through improvement of care and health
4. To advance the use of healthcare information between allied providers and patients
5. To educate, engage and empower patients as members of their care team
6. To maximize QPP participation with a flexible and transparent design, and easy to use program tools
7. To maximize QPP participation through education, outreach and support tailored to the needs of practices, especially those that are small, rural and in underserved areas
8. To expand Alternative Payment Model participation
9. To provide accurate, timely, and actionable performance data to clinicians, patients and other stakeholders
10. To continuously improve QPP, based on participant feedback and collaboration
