Description
The Society for Pediatric Dermatology was established in 1975 and currently has over 1,500 members worldwide. It is the only national organization in the U.S. specifically dedicated to the field of Pediatric Dermatology. Mission The mission of the SPD is to advance the specialty through education and research, to develop new means of treatment, and to provide advocacy in support of pediatric patients with skin, hair and nail disorders. Core Values - Exceptional and unparalleled focus on pediatric skin disorders - Collegiality and inclusiveness - Diversity and equity - Collaboration and teamwork - Teaching and learning - Mentorship - Integrity and ethical practices - Respect and kindness - Excellence - Promotion of skin health and disease prevention Diversity Statement The SPD is committed to patient advocacy and the continual advancement of patient care. Central to these commitments is equity for and inclusion of all patients. As providers caring for patients frequently stigmatized by their diseases, we are especially aware of the detrimental effects children who experience bigotry can suffer. We feel passionately that intolerance in any form is unacceptable. We recognize that each child's unique identity is influenced by many factors, including their biology, ancestral background, familial and cultural upbringing, and life experiences. We respect and welcome the diversity represented by our patient population. We will promote the provision of equitable care for every patient irrespective of visible or hidden skin disease, race, ethnicity, language, gender identity, socioeconomic status, belief system, sexual orientation, physical or mental differences, or any other characteristic that may subject our patients to discrimination in their daily lives. We are dedicated to developing a membership that is educated in and proactively fosters diversity, equity, and inclusion, making safe spaces for patients to feel empowered in their unique identities. We recognize that a commitment to the overall well-being of our patients is indelibly linked to respect for whoever they may be, whatever they may look like, however they choose to communicate, whatever their abilities, and whomever they may love. We will compassionately care for all who seek help from us.
