About Us SCHIMA is a 501(c)(6) non-profit professional association that exists to support, develop, and advance its diverse state membership through providing approved, high quality continuing local and virtual education opportunities and networking events. SCHIMA also provides governance at the state level with delegates representing our state at the AHIMA House of Delegates (HOD). Our delegates are active in state and national legislative advocacy efforts on behalf of our members and our profession. Additionally, we partner with sister professional associations and organizations on many shared interests. Our work in South Carolina is customer-focused and patient-centered, supporting high-quality and safe patient care, evidence-based medicine, population health research, and compliant coding and billing through ensuring the quality and integrity of health data and information. We also champion patient rights, including patient privacy, and the secure exchange of patient information in an increasingly technologically advanced healthcare industry.
