Stanford Medicine Center for Improvement

The Stanford Medicine Center for Improvement (SMCI) aims to cultivate a culture of continuous improvement across Stanford Medicine, with the goal of coming the best at getting better. SMCI seeks to improve the Value (safety, quality, patient experience, equity, efficiency, and cost) of health and health care, and we serve as the home for learning and knowledge generation for improvement science. Through the Lillie and Donnelly Seed Grant Program, we aim to harness the expertise of faculty, trainees, and staff at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford (LPCHS) and Stanford Medicine Children’s Health (SMCH) to develop and implement innovative projects designed to improve our performance and the quality of health care we deliver to our patients and families. In 2019, we announced the approval of the Stanford Medicine Center for Improvement: Creating a Community of Improvers. As a joint venture between Stanford School of Medicine, Stanford Children’s Health, and Stanford Health Care, the Stanford Medicine Center for Improvement aspires to “become the best at getting better”. The key areas of focus for the Center are: - Fostering education and capability development in improvement science - Enhancing evaluation, publication, and external funding of improvement efforts The Stanford Medicine Center for Improvement also sponsors the following Affinity Groups that welcome all interested in these focus areas: - Advanced Data Analytics - Teamwork - Stanford Medicine Community of Improvers (SCIP) We urge everyone in the Stanford Medicine Community – in all occupations and at all levels – to join our community of improvers and help us become the best at getting better!
