U.S. Army Corps of Engineers - Kansas City District

The Kansas City District was established in 1907 and has a broad range of responsibilities, including civil works, military construction, environmental resource management and rehabilitation, regulatory tasks, and the cleanup of Hazardous, Toxic, and Radiological Waste (HTRW). The district manages 500 miles of the Missouri River, 18 lake projects, and 2 hydropower facilities covering the states of Missouri, Kansas, Iowa, Nebraska, and Colorado. The Kansas City district's military construction area of responsibility covers the states of Missouri and Kansas, providing construction services to 7 military installations. This district is also responsible for the U.S. Army Reserve Design Program across 10 states, stretching north from Missouri. The district is the primary design office for Hazardous, Toxic, and Radiological Waste (HTRW) cleanup in 7 states and the secondary design office in 8 other states. It also manages the disposal of Naturally Occurring Radioactive Materials (non-fissionable) nationwide. In cases of natural or manmade disasters, the Kansas City District is tasked with emergency response and recovery in Kansas and Missouri under Public Law, and nationwide under the National Response Framework.
