****Who We Are**** Since its 1976 establishment, the Office of Inspector General (OIG) has been at the forefront of the Nation's efforts to fight waste, fraud and abuse and to improve the efficiency of more than 100 Department of Health & Human Services (HHS) programs. The majority of the agency’s resources go towards the oversight of Medicare and Medicaid — programs that represent a significant part of the Federal budget and that affect this country's most vulnerable citizens. **Mission** OIG's mission is to provide objective oversight to promote the economy, efficiency, effectiveness, and integrity of HHS programs, as well as the health and welfare of the people they serve. **Vision** Our vision is to drive positive change in HHS programs and in the lives of the people served by these programs. **Values** OIG strives to be impactful, innovative, and people-focused.
