****The UC Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education Program (SAREP) is a statewide program within UC Agriculture and Natural Resources.**** - We build networks between researchers and practitioners to improve how we conduct academic research, and strengthen local efforts by providing relevant data and data analysis. - We create tools for farmers and local food system practitioners to assess and strengthen their own agricultural and marketing practices. - We assess existing programs to help them meet changing needs and serve as examples for burgeoning efforts throughout the state. - We conduct original research on issues that cut across disciplines and work with stakeholders to ensure research is useful credible. ****OUR GOALS:**** **Access to Food that is Healthy for People the Planet** We support access to fresh, local, culturally appropriate, sustainably produced food through a number of channels. ***Learn more on our Regional Food Systems page.*** **Strong Food Systems** We empower California communities to strengthen their regional food systems. ***Learn more on our Regional Food Systems page.*** **Economic Prosperity** We share information about practices that make farms of all sizes resilient and viable. ***Learn more on our Farm Enterprise Diversification page.*** **Inclusive Equitable Society** We work with communities on strategies to address inequities in the food system. ***Learn more on our Social Equity page.*** **Climate Resilience** We identify actions needed in agriculture to address climate change. ***Learn more on our Climate Change page.*** **Protect Natural Resources through Agroecology** We link researchers and producers to design sustainable, biologically diverse agricultural landscapes. ***Learn more on our Agroecology and Water Nutrient Management pages.*** UC SAREP has united with the Organic Agriculture Institute, the Small Farms Network, and the Master Food Preserver Program. Together, our work across the food supply chain supports agriculture and food systems that are economically viable, conserve natural resources and biodiversity, and enhance the quality of life and equity in the state’s urban, rural and Tribal communities.
