United Way of the Plains

Since 1922, United Way of the Plains has brought together individuals and organizations to create real, lasting results for the people of south central Kansas. OUR VISION We envision a region in south central Kansas where all individuals and families achieve their human potential through health, education, financial stability and basic needs. OUR MISSION To improve lives by harnessing the caring power of our community to advance the common good in south central Kansas. OUR FOCUS We focus on health, education, financial stability and basic needs because we believe they are the building blocks for a good quality of life and a strong community. We fight to advance the common good by creating opportunities for all. We are the problem-solvers, hand-raisers and game-changers. OUR VALUES Community We believe in coming together in the spirit of teamwork and servant leadership to share our responsibility to care for one another. By collectively addressing the needs of our region, we will strengthen our community. Collaboration The nature of our work means we are tackling issues beyond any one’s ability to solve it on their own. We know we can’t do it alone, so we must be selfless and supportive with our partners to achieve collective impact. When a complex community need is met, everyone wins. We strive to be colleagues, not competitors; partners, not rivals. Leadership We are a catalyst for positive change, creating awareness of needs and celebrating successes in care for one another and in creating a more compassionate community. We are humble problem solvers seeking to advance the common good. If a rising tide lifts all boats, then we will be that tide. People We are the people’s United Way and will treat all of our citizen-volunteers with dignity and respect. We are led by a board of the people, we give back to the community based on the decisions of the people, and we are funded by the people. We exist to serve the needs of the community where our people live and work.
