****Philosophy in the Public Square**** Our world requires making difficult decisions, both in our own lives and in public spaces. In philosophy we cultivate the art of constructive reasoning: we gather arguments from all sides and sources—from historical texts, recent essays, and one another—and we reason our way through them in order to gain a comprehensive perspective. Our classes teach students to read critically, listen sympathetically, and communicate with clarity, force, and precision.
