Volunteer West Virginia

Volunteer West Virginia, the lead agency for volunteerism and National Service in West Virginia, administers $8 million in federal, state, and local funding for National Service and volunteer programs across the state each year. The Commission is guided by a bipartisan board of Commissioners, who are appointed by the Governor of West Virginia. We believe in the power of people to make their communities better. Volunteer West Virginia oversees National Service programs like AmeriCorps, which tackles some of West Virginia's toughest problems. AmeriCorps members can be found throughout the state mentoring youth, eliminating food deserts, helping homeless Veterans, preserving historic properties, and more. Volunteer West Virginia grantees include nonprofits, schools, faith-based organizations, and other community organizations. We believe voluntary service is a powerful tool for community change. Volunteer West Virginia leads volunteer initiatives throughout the state, such as Day to Serve and the Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service. We believe that by working together we get more done and the solutions are better. We believe in giving taxpayers their money's worth. In 2018, for every state dollar invested in Volunteer West Virginia, the state received $17 additional dollars from federal, local and private sources. We believe in taking care of ourselves and each other.
