Biography

Kathrin Zippel is an associate professor of sociology at Northeastern University. Her research explores gender and international research collaborations and mobility in global science. She also compares gender equality politics in German and U.S. institutions of higher education. Zippel has published on gender politics in the workplace, public and social policy, social movements, welfare states, and globalization. Her book The Politics of Sexual Harassment in the United States, the European Union and Germany(Cambridge University Press) won several book awards. Zippel received a Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She was a post-doc in the European Union Center of New York at Columbia University. Zippel held a Humboldt Research fellowship at the Max Planck Institute for the Study of Societies in Cologne and at the Ludwig-Maximilians-University in Munich. She was also a visitor at the Social Science Research Center Berlin, a guest researcher at the University of Athens and the European University Institute in Florence.

Kathrin Zippel. The Politics of Sexual Harassment: A Comparative Study of the United States, the European Union and Germany (Cambridge University Press, 2006). Kathrin Zippel is the co-winner of the Victoria Schuck Award 2007 of the American Political Science Association for the best book published the previous year on women and politics. The book received an Honorable Mention from the American Sociology, Sex and Gender Distinguished Book award committee in 2008.
