Biography

Rachel McMahan Thomas, PhD, is a board-certified Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in Family Practice and an Assistant Professor of Nursing at the University of North Florida, Brooks College of Health, School of Nursing. She has over two decades of experience working with children and adult survivors of sexual abuse, physical assault, intimate partner violence, and other maltreatments. She is a member of a multidisciplinary team in northeast Florida that aims to intervene in complex and challenging cases of abuse. She has previously held teaching positions at the University of Massachusetts School of Nursing, Jacksonville University School of Nursing, and the University of Florida College of Medicine. Her research interests include health disparities, equity in the healthcare system in underserved populations, abuse prevention, and psychological wellbeing among professionals working in high-stress environments.
